THE HAUNTING OF WHALEY HOUSE - SUNK COST FALLACY
10:42
Chipper as heck music for intro. Couldn't even make it through the first ten minutes, terrible acting and script. Camera has two characters in frame and both are somehow cut off, unreal.
(1)
Trigger Warning Mild Homophobia, Racism, Sexism, Seizure (who knows what else)
32 seconds in and we already have the largest character pulling food out of his pocket so you know this is a high brow story. His pocket snack of choice is a wet pickle (wack). 36 seconds in and we get our first crack at the fellows weight. Poorly written, awkwardly acted, and the camera work leaves a lot to be desired. Stilted folks working at “the most haunted house in America” but I’ve never heard of it before. Ten minutes in and all I am is bored, the characters mean nothing to me, I’m more interested in what happened to the pickle.

The Whaley House
The most famous of all haunted locations in San Diego, with its stories told in magazines, movies, and television shows.
Even before all the tragedy that befell them, the Whaleys told the local newspaper that they were experiencing a poltergeist that they believed was the ghost of James “Yankee Jim” Robinson, who was hanged on the property for stealing a boat years before the infamous home was built.
Not helping matters is the fact that the Whaley House was built upon an old cemetery. The Whaleys long maintained that they heard footsteps in the house, with passersby corroborating the Whaley’s claims by reporting apparitions in the home’s windows from the streets.
During the house’s later periods of restoration, workers and visitors claimed to hear strange, unexplained sounds, sights and even smells. Most felt a powerful presence whenever inside the residence.
This is believed by many to be the lingering ghost of Jim Robinson mentioned earlier. He would torment the living by leaving footprints, stomping on the floor, and making chilling noises throughout the abode.

(100% self indulgent but if you are interested!)
short stories
The V Word: Bobby's older brother Daniel wants everyone to believe their parents are dead, but Bobby knows this isn't true. He doesn't understand what happened the night everything fell apart, but he knows they'll be coming back. So when there is a tapping at Bobby's window one night, it makes perfect sense to let them in...
[untitled demon apartment story]: Marnie is positive there's a demon in her apartment building, and she is going to lay out the evidence. Too bad no one believes her...
Chosen Ones: When Elaine's children go missing one day, she connects the dots back to a supposedly imaginary wizard friend who claims to be their father (impossible, but her wife isn't there to confirm or deny); stories of a fantasy land that need help; and what is seemingly a door in the old oak tree in the backyard.
[untitled pet sitting story]: Leni sees her new pet sitting gig as easy money, but is confused when she can't find the cat she's supposed to be watching, and keeps hearing sounds that more closely resemble a dog at night. When she and best friend Mo find articles about dog abuse taking place at the owners' previous house, the pieces begin to come together...
[untitled "beheading" story]: Dani's strange interest/preoccupation with decapitation has haunted her through her life, and is potentially the reason her childhood friendship with Maggie fell apart. But shocking news about Maggie in the present day suddenly makes the issue more real than ever.
[untitled witch story]: Kids on a camping trip are eager to try out the ritual described in a campfire story, but the consequences are more severe than they anticipated.
The Spectral Air Conditioning Solution: The air conditioner in Katie's apartment has been broken for weeks with no end in sight. Luckily Katie has an unconventional solution: simply summon a ghost to provide free air conditioning. This is harder than she expects...
[untitled bloody mary story]: Amelia is initially delighted to be moving in with her great-niece Amy, but her past begins to catch up with her in an unfortunate series of circumstances when Amy's daughter Millie insists on playing Bloody Mary in Amelia's room.
short story/novella?/will probably rewrite as a novel
Room 721: In 1981, college roommates Kit Matheson and Eleanor Brown hold a seance on Halloween, which they believe to have had no consequences. In 2021, the now married Kit and Eleanor return to campus, and encounter Evie Castillo, the new tenant of the room, who is terrified by what Kit and Eleanor unintentionally left behind.
novel drafts
The House on Whaley Lake: Sisters Rebecca, Beth, Molly, and Madison Murphy still feel the varying effects of having grown up in a haunted house. When their aunt and mother purchase a lake house in the mountains of North Carolina, it feels like a chance to start over. But this new house might have more in common with their childhood home than they realize...
[untitled fake ghost story novel]: The McMillan family (parents Katrina and John, and kids Ben, Jane, Marley, and Joey) have gained Internet notoriety for fleeing their supposedly haunted house in the middle of the night, Amityville-style. But the McMillans have a secret: they've faked the whole thing, and the only one who knows the truth is Jane's best friend Holly, whose mother is renting them a new apartment. Most of the McMillans are highly skeptical of ghosts; but when a photo taken on a ghost tour collides with an impromptu seance, the family has to contend with the real thing...
[untitled 80s kids ghost story]: Looking for something to do in their small West Virginia town, best friends Han, Louie, Sasha, and Erin go searching for ghosts and other creatures of the night in the abandoned house up in the holler. When things go badly, they figure nothing will come from it; the house is empty, after all. But when new student Samantha is revealed to have recently moved into the house, the girls realize they must do something to fix things -- or otherwise Samantha's family will be in real danger.
[untitled creepy kid story]: The Moyer family -- parents Bonnie and David, kids Kira, Katherine, Marty, and Ollie -- are eager to move into their new house. But things start to go wrong when youngest Ollie begins behaving very strangely. Six months later, the Moyers have moved, but they are haunted by their experience -- and wonder if they can fully trust their brother and son...
edit i forgot one
[untitled middle grade novel]: When Meg's parents abruptly announce that they are getting divorced, she searches for solace in her best friend Joy Hammond, and Joy's sisters Miri and Ruthie. But the Hammonds have problems of their own. They live in an apartment adjacent to the church where their father preaches, and strange things have begun to happen there, including whispers of a girl named Mary who died in the sanctuary long ago. Meg is terrified, but she knows she can't abandon Joy now; and with things growing worse at home, Joy's house remains a refuge, even as the haunting gets worse...

31 Days of Halloween: Day 18, The Whaley House in San Diego
Welcome to Day 18 of our 31 days of Halloween journey. Today, we venture into the heart of Old Town San Diego to unravel the eerie tales enveloped within the historical Whaley House. With its forbidding atmosphere and a grim history tracing back to the mid-19th century, the Whaley House is a fascinating blend of San Diego’s early history and the supernatural.
Historical Background
Thomas Whaley, the owner and builder of this iconic house, commenced construction on May 6, 1856, on a piece of land that once housed San Diego’s public gallows. Unyielding to the property’s somber past, Thomas aspired to create the “handsomest, most comfortable and convenient place in town,” a vision that culminated in the majestic Greek Revival house known as the Whaley House. The house not only served as a residence but also hosted a general store, courthouse, and at one point, the Tanner Troupe Theatre, standing as a testament to the vibrant life led by the Whaley family amidst the burgeoning city of San Diego.
Haunting Tales
The spectral stories of Whaley House are as diverse as the roles it played in the early days of San Diego.
Yankee Jim’s Last Stand: The property was infamous for being the execution ground of Yankee Jim Robinson, a notorious horse thief. The grim aura of the execution site seeped into the foundations of the Whaley House, with many believing it was destined to be haunted even before its construction .
The Whaley Family’s Unfortunate Legacy: Tragic deaths and spiritual encounters have long been associated with the Whaley family. Thomas Whaley’s son, Thomas Jr., died at the tender age of 18 months from scarlet fever within the house. The footsteps, crying, and giggling of Baby Thomas have been reported by many visitors over the years.
Spectral Residents: Thomas, Anna, and other members of the Whaley family who lived and died in the house are believed to linger within its halls. Paranormal activities such as unexplained mists, lights turning on and off by themselves, and the swinging of crystals in the parlor room’s lamp have been reported by both visitors and paranormal investigators.
Exploring the Whaley House
The Whaley House offers a glimpse into San Diego’s past intertwined with ghostly phenomena. Guided tours provide an in-depth look into the history and hauntings associated with this historic landmark, allowing the brave to possibly encounter the spectral residents of the Whaley House.
Conclusion
As Day 18 of our Halloween series concludes, the Whaley House stands as a somber yet intriguing relic of San Diego’s past. Its walls hold tales of family, tragedy, and the supernatural, offering a hauntingly unique insight into the early days of San Diego. Venture into its halls, explore its haunted history, and perhaps, meet the ghosts of San Diego’s iconic Whaley House.

Somebody who has more social medias, let the GIGGS team that's going to San Diego for twitchcon know that they should visit the Whaley House Museum. It's commonly listed as one of the most haunted houses in the US, the first floor and the grounds are wheelchair friendly, and it's not too far from the convention center that Twitchcon is at (Google Maps says it's about a 15 minute drive)

Rock and Roll, Buckaroo! (Bakusquad x you)
summary: you go on a ghost tour with the bakusquad - 1.3k words
cw: so much yelling, cliche paranormal activity (flickering lights, footsteps, etc), lots of profanity thanks bakugo, the bakusquad shares a single brain cell and most of the time you have it
note: so i wrote this instead of working on stuff for hawks and gojo but don't worry they're on their way i promise <3 i offer you this halloween in july fic instead inspired by buzzfeed unsolved and my visit to the whaley house a few months back.
likes/reblogs/feedback is always appreciated!!!
“I’ll be honest, Mina, I don’t think Doja is the vibe for rolling up to a haunted house.”
“Passenger seat gets AUX, Sero, so you’re just gonna have to deal with it.”
“Why the fuck does the driver not get AUX–”
“Because your music has an even worse vibe than Mina’s, Bakubro.”
“Tch, whatever. Just be glad I’m driving your dumbasses or else you’d be stuck with Denki’s passive ass in the driver’s seat.”
“I am a safe driver! Safer than Bakugo at least…”
“OI–” The car erupts into chaos as Bakugo tries to blast Denki, who was sitting directly behind the driver’s seat while Mina throws herself over the wheel to avoid veering into oncoming traffic. Denki screams in terror, reaching across Jiro for Kirishima, who was trying to push back Bakugo’s sparking hand. You put your head in your hands as Sero starts viciously kicking Denki’s seat from the third row. Why Sero thought it would be a good idea to send a TikTok about the most haunted places in the country to the group chat suggesting a visit to one right outside the city, you had no idea. What perplexes you, even more, is that Bakugo had been the first one to agree, followed by you and Kirishima, then Mina and Jiro, and finally a reluctant Denki.
“Bakugo! The parking lot!” Jiro screams from the middle row. In between his pleas for Bakugo’s mercy, Denki yells out final directions.
“You have to turn right now!” Bakugo throws the wheel to the side and swerves a violent right turn, hurtling Sero into your shoulder. Sero rights himself and takes in the surrounding modern-looking office complex with confusion.
“That was the wrong exit!”
“No fucking shit! Denki, you said to turn right!”
“I meant left right at that moment, dude!”
“YOU-”
“Bakubro, remember your morals!”
Ten minutes later, after several more attempts at homicide by Bakugo’s hands, you were standing at the steps of the ancient-looking house as the tour guide introduced the history of the hauntings to your group and others unfortunate enough to have booked a tour at the same time.
“You guys scared?” Mina whispers to you, linking her elbow to yours with a smile.
Jiro scoffed from your other side, and you shook your head in agreement. “As if,” you reply, straining to listen to the guide’s instructions.
“Take care, dear visitors, for certain things may go BUMP,” he says, stamping his cane on the porch and making Denki yelp. “And beware of the spirits of the family that are determined to make visitors acknowledge them, skeptical or not.” The guide points his cane at Kirishima, who runs a hand through his hair, chuckling nervously. The guide stares into Kirishima’s eyes for a few moments more and then abruptly turns around to open the doors, causing snickers among your friends.
“Enter, dear visitors, if you dare.”
The guide leads the group through the foyer, the kitchen, the living area, and the upstairs bedrooms. The house was filled with beautifully ornate furniture and well-preserved artifacts from centuries past caked with layers of dust.
Not that your friends cared about all that.
Sero had his phone out, recording from the moment you had stepped through the entryway and insistent upon catching paranormal activity. You took photos of Mina and Jiro posing next to the portraits of the Ladies of the House, their eyebrows drawn together and eyelids droopy to match the paintings’ solemn expressions. Bakugo, surprisingly, was fascinated by the grim history of the house and would shush your group if they started getting too loud that he couldn’t hear the guide. Kirishima stuck close to Bakugo and Denki, jokingly commenting on whether the actions of the men in the house were manly or not to hide his unease.
The tour ended at the head of the house’s office before exiting out the backyard gate, and your friends lingered to take a photo in an antique full-body mirror. The temperature seemed to have dropped significantly, and Sero’s phone battery drained immediately after taking the mirror photo.
“Man… I swear this thing had, like, 80% power when we got here.” He knocked his hand a few times against the edge of the phone to no avail, the no-battery symbol flashing mockingly at him.
“Maybe it’s ‘cause you were recording unnecessary shit this entire time. Coulda just asked me for a fuckin’ summary afterward.”
You laughed at Bakugo’s commitment to the tour. “You’re just grumpy that we dragged you into a group mirror photo, Kats.”
“Alright, now that my hands are free, do you think that if I drew a pentagram on the floor that I’d summon a demon?” Sero waggled his eyebrows and Jiro scoffed at his casual reference to getting possessed.
“Maybe if you sat on it. Or laid on it, like that tall guy on YouTube.”
“Nah, man, I don’t mess around with that shit. Don’t be trying that stuff if I’m near you.”
“Do you actually believe in ghosts? That’s why you’re scared of them?”
“Not scared… just not interested in getting my body taken over. It’d suck big time.”
“Mina, what the fuck are you looking at that’s so funny?” The pink-haired hero was pointing to a small, faded image of one of the family’s sons that had died of some disease.
“Ha, look at this guy that looks like Bakugo, Jiro. Jiro?” Mina’s voice trails off, looking back at Jiro, who was tensely staring at the ceiling of the house. Her eyes track the perimeter of where the office walls meet the ceiling, face taut with concentration. The others don’t notice until she quietly sticks one of her earphone jacks into the ceiling and gasps, a hand flying up to cover her mouth.
Bakugo’s focus shoots to Jiro, immediately on alert. “Yo, Ears, are you good?”
“There are… footsteps. Upstairs. Sounds like two people walking around.”
Kirishima loses a little bit of color on his face. “That could be just another tour, right?”
“No, no, no. The guide said we were on the last tour of the night.” Mina’s eyes are wide with concern and she puts out her hands as if to calm down the escalating fear of the group. “What if it’s the guy that I said looked like Katsuki?” Bakugo snarls, on the verge of biting Mina’s pointing finger off.
“Okay, no, it’s probably cleaning people.” Kirishima glances at the exit door leading to the outside, but you all seem to be frozen where you stand.
Sero’s eyes sparkle from behind his dead phone camera. “Yeah, ghost cleaning people.” Chills run down your spine, and you shiver at the dropping temperature. Kirishima opens his mouth to counter Sero’s suggestion but is cut off by Bakugo’s harsh tone.
“Stop it, Denki,” he suddenly snaps.
Denki’s face twists in confusion. “My bad?”
“Dude, I said stop it.”
“I’m not doing anything!”
Scowling at Denki, Bakugo points aggressively to the ceiling light that had started flickering after Jiro’s gasp.
“That’s…not me…”
“Guys? You see that, right?”
You turn towards Kirishima, who has moved to the doorway of the office that leads to the rest of the house. His eyes are the size of pool balls and his face is completely devoid of color. As you carefully gather around the doorway of the office to see what he’s looking at, pure horror courses through your entire body as you take in two pairs of eyes peering back at your friends from the top of the stairs. They were undeniably eyes, and you stare at them until one of them blinks and they both start to descend the stairs.
Right towards your friends.
Your group explodes into unbelievably loud shrieks of horror and shouted expletives as you high-tail it out the door, Kirishima having just enough sense to knock down Bakugo’s hand before he fires a shot at the stairs and gets you all sued for property damage.
Days later, Sero frames a copy of the mirror photo you all had taken in the office, and upon closer inspection of the photo, you discover two figures standing in the doorway behind you and your smiling friends.

the entirety of buzzfeed unsolved but the stories are in chronological order: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGGIwil6tMX95BMdYvMY8Co5Y2J8yxpe-
supernatural was very hard to do so under the cut i've added my reasons for some difficult episodes to list! if anyone has qualms with it or if you notice any mistakes in the playlist please let me know!
the london tombs, la llorona, and the voodoo episodes were difficult due to no real timeframe being known for when they began so i based the london tombs off of ryan saying the bridge has been around since ancient rome which is why it's one of the first videos in the playlist. la llorona required me to do my own research which led me to believe the story came about in the 1500s? possibly predating that but the first written versions were apparently from the 1500s. for the voodoo new orleans episode i did some research and based it on when it could have been brought to the area.
for bigfoot, mothman, and the men in black, i listed those based on the first encounters/evidence presented
many of the locations, i listed based on when they closed their operations or the owners passed before becoming noted haunted locations. (winchester house, sorrel-weed, villa montezuma, whaley house, old city jail, pythian castle, vulture mine, waverly hills, bellaire house, eastern state, rolling hills)
other haunted ones are currently still operating so i listed those based on when they first opened or got into the hands of the current owners (viaduct tavern, st. augustine, tombstone, goatman's bridge, the viper room, bobby mackey's, moon river)
dauphine orleans hotel was listed as the date ryan said a license to may bailey was given for the bordello. im very unsure about this one so if anyone has suggestions on how to list this one, please reach out EDIT: decided on 1775 because ryan mentioned that year as the site the hotel is on and i felt more sure about it that choice
farnsworth was listed as the year of the battle of gettysburg due to the house being named after a soldier who died in that battle + notable events happening and around the house
the bermuda triangle was tricky so i listed that as the date the term "bermuda triangle" was first coined EDIT: it's been moved to close to the top of the playlist due to the first alleged reporting of weird bermuda shit being by christopher columbus in 1492. this made more sense to me
colchester and morris-jumel are museums now so those were dated as when they were officially museums
the uss yorktown and the queen mary are listed as when they docked for good.
the alien abductions episode is in the 70s area of the playlist because 2/3 of the stories happened in the 70s.
the date the island of the dolls began is where i based "3 horrifying cases of ghosts and demons" since there are separate episodes for the winchester mansion and the sallie house
i based all the haunted locations on those things because i figured that the ghosties would appear after the notable deaths and wild events instead of listing all of them as when they first opened.
i hope all of this makes sense. enjoy.

EL CAMPO SANTO CEMETERY
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA
Just a few footsteps away from the Whaley House, El Campo Santo Cemetery is also known for its haunted occurrences. Established in 1849, this Roman Catholic cemetery was originally the burial ground for more than 450 people, including Yankee Jim Robinson, who was hung on the grounds of the Whaley House years before it was built.
The trouble here started when the city built a horse-drawn carriage line and later paved over part of the cemetery to make way for car travel. At least 18 graves are known to be under the street and sidewalk, leaving those buried below very unhappy.
Those who walk the grounds of this historic cemetery have also had mysterious experiences: An icy chill coming over them, glowing figures, a floating image of a native American, a specter that appears to be dressed in period clothing and a woman in a Victorian gown, just to name a few.
It’s no surprise that in a city so many centuries deep in history there are places where the spirits of the dead seem to linger. Not wanting to move on to the other side, they appear in many different forms. Whether intending to haunt or just tormented by their uncertain existence, their presence has been witnessed time and time again.
Cars parked on the street would often have problems starting. Their car alarms would often go off suddenly, and with no reason. In order to appease the spirits beneath the street, special marks have been placed in the pavement to show where the original graves are located.
Those who live and work around the small suburban cemetery regularly report strange happenings which can only be attributed to that of a haunting. Intermittent power outages occur without explanation, irritating those trying to live harmoniously with the dead.
Alarm systems start and stop at will, lights randomly flicker throughout homes and businesses; even their appliances will inexplicably turn on and off. Little annoyances like these are the norm while living by the El Campo Santo Cemetery.
Numerous apparitions have been seen in and around El Campo Santo, gliding around directly above grave markers. Usually dressed in traditional 19th century attire, these ghosts are thought to be those of the Workman family who make up the majority who are buried here.
Extreme drops in temperature have been reported throughout the grounds on multiple occasions; a telltale sign of a paranormal entity present. These cold spots are almost always accompanied by flashes of light and hovering orbs.
In several occasions, visitors of the historic graveyard have attested to mistaking poltergeists for park employees. Upon reaching the employee to converse, they will suddenly vanish.
Some phantoms are seen floating around with only an upper torso. Sightings that may be telling as to how the spirit died.
Many tourists have snapped pictures in and around El Campo Santo, later finding mysterious objects littered throughout their photos; objects that weren’t there previously.
An unidentified female apparition regularly glides around the south wall, sporting a white Victorian dress. She quickly dematerializes upon contact.
Reports of a Native American spirit have also been passed around. This one is said to float just an inch or two above the ground; its identity remains unknown.
